April 2007 to March 2008 - HSBC, Canary Wharf, London
FX Router is a Powerbuilder 10 Foreign Exchange trading system. Gartmore required a change to FX Router (FXR) in order to support the generation and processing of non-deliverable forwards (NDFs). FX trading is driven by asset movement in Gartmore held funds. A number of the funds allow asset hedging in an attempt to reduce risk and exposure to currency fluctuations, FX forward trades are generated out of the FXR Asset Hedging routine. NDFs are an over the counter foreign exchange derivative product on a thinly traded or non-convertible currency (restricted in FXR) that is cash settled based upon the difference between the agreed forward exchange rate and the subsequently realised spot rate fixing in a convertible currency (generally the USD). This is unlike traditional forward Forex markets, there is no principal exchanged up-front with only a one-way payment in the convertible at maturity. Restricted currency dealing is currently not possible but the introduction of NDFs introduces the flexibility of hedging and trading the restricted currencies within FXR.
Please view the case study for a brief overview of the changes. Techtonic Solutions took the requirements document and carried out the software development of this piece of work programming completed using Powerbuilder, Sybase and SQL-Server.
October 2005 to April 2007 - Aberdeen Asset Management (AAM), London. AAM acquired Deutsche Asset Management (DEAM) in 2005. Techtonic Solutions was involved in a variety of integration work and software development using Oracle, Powerbuilder 8 and ASP.net. The project involved modifying and customising existing DEAM trading systems. Phase 1, replaced the DEAM trading platform with the Charles River trading platform used by AAM. This involved a great deal of analysis and development work to ensure the business could continue as the underlying systems and data were gradually integrated. Phase 2 involved moving the block matching of trades with brokers to BNP while maintaining the feed of the results into the existing DEAM systems from an Accounting perspective. Phase 3 required the migration of all DEAM funds across to Aberdeen. This required system and data changes plus the continued support and maintenance of the old DEAM Bargains and FX systems which have now been switched off.
